How long must I wait before varnishing an oil painting?

Typically, you should wait 6 to 12 months. The paint must be fully cured, not just dry to the touch, to prevent the varnish from cracking.

Is there a difference between gloss, satin, and matte varnish?

As a general guide, gloss enhances colour saturation and depth, matte eliminates reflections, while satin varnish offers a subtle, wax-like glow in between the two.

Can I use a spray varnish instead of a brush-on?

Spray varnishes like our Loxley Artists Picture Varnish Aerosol are excellent for delicate textures or porous surfaces where a brush might disturb the underlying paint.

What does removable varnish mean?

It means the varnish can be dissolved with a mild solvent like mineral spirits, allowing the painting to be cleaned of surface grime decades later.

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes, we offer a 10% discount on all orders over £150 to support your larger commissions. Whether you are stocking up on heavy-body acrylic paints or large bottles of painting mediums, we make it more affordable to bring larger visions to life.

What is your returns policy?

You can return items to us within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, subject to them being in good condition and in their original packaging. This will have to be done at your own expense and using your chosen carrier.

If your order contains faulty or damaged items, please email sales@loxleyarts.co.uk, and our team will assist you. Please email us clear photos of your faulty/damaged item within 3-5 days of receiving your order.
