Visual Art Trends 2021
As many Artists are preparing for exhibitions in 2021 (online at least – and let’s hope for physical face to face Fairs later in the year), we give our view of what might be the most in-demand styles of Artwork – based on interior design trend forecasts.
Naturally, if you’re reading this as an artist, you’ll may just be thinking “abstract, realism, cubism, pop-art…. which will be the winner and am I doomed if that’s not my style?” Stop, hold your brushes we say!
There’s “Style” in the way we as artists think – and “Style” in the minds of many Art Fair visitors. Maybe we should have started this article with the term “Themes for 2021”
Let’s ask the question – what themes will be a hit for your style this year? The vast majority of sales are made by people who have previously purchased a piece of that artist’s work, or have considered doing so for some months. What we’re looking for here is how to get the ‘edge’ in terms of the number/value of artworks sold.
It’s a question of seeing where your own style fits into one or more of the many design trends that will be in most demand during the next couple of years, rather than changing your style just for the sake of chasing customers.
By aligning their work with emerging tastes, professional artists are able to add extra clients whilst retaining their all-important core and authentic following.
Thankfully, there are a multitude of 2021 trend predictions as we seek more and more to express our personal uniqueness in the way which we furnish our homes. Our homes have become more special to us as bastions of safety, retreat, connection and self-expression all at once. Judging by the forecasts Interior Designers are making, it looks like there will be as many interior design themes as there are Artistic themes going forward!
Global & Earthy Influence
Global themes are expected to strengthen, if you can’t travel there then let’s bring a flavour-burst of it into our everyday lives. Inspiration from safari deserts and wildlife, is a big trend for 2021. Spaces are been built around natural, earthy colour palettes creating a comforting and welcoming look. Incorporating paintings of wildlife or Safari plains is the finishing touch, to taking the room that step further.
Capturing beach getaways, and bringing in shades of blue offers a calm, soothing look. We are seeing that Ocean blues are a key colour trend this year, as the element of travel and holidays is been brought into our spaces. From deep, rich tones to soft aquas, blue is a peaceful, calming and comforting colour…it is just what we need for 2021.
Pantone Colours of the Year
Pantone are taking a unique step, as they have named the two colours as their shades of the year. Illuminating Zingy Yellow and Ultimate Gray are the shades of the YEAR!
Grey has been a popular and much-loved neutral colour for years but teamed up with zingy yellow creates a buzz and brings energy to a space to work with any style.
‘The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one,’ says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
A Focal Point
The home office is becoming a focal point. It is important that a home office is designed to inspire people and increase motivation. One way to spark creative inspiration is by way of artwork. It is important to consider the size of the artwork, and choose a piece that inspires you.
A comfortable chair is vital, but it is important to get the level of comfort correct, as this will have an impact on your concentration and motivation levels. The correct lighting, from task lighting to accent lighting is crucial in playing a part in motivation.
Luxury Retreats
As more people are spending more time at home, there is an increase in wanting to elevate out homes by adding touches of luxury. A growing desire for hotel design comes a love for luxury velvets, geometric shapes, monochrome paintings & prints and everything gold! It is a feeling of some where to escape that has all the comforts and refinements of boutique hotels.
