Nicki Hughes - Contemporary Energy Artist
Question: Can you tell us about yourself/your artistic background and education?
Artist: I am self-taught, having moved from 35 years in holistic therapies into the world of Energy Art (in 2018). I do have some previous experience with watercolours and painting on silks, but I hadn’t opened my paint box until I was approaching my 50s.
Question: Can you take us through the process that you go through to complete your masterpieces?
Artist: I work from my studio on the Somerset Levels, enabling me to really bring the vibration of Mother Nature into my work. Using breathwork, drumming and smudging charcoals to place energy within each piece, with the added use of inks, gold leaf, and sometimes crystals to really bring each piece to life.
I allow creativity to flow through my connection with the Earth. It’s deeply about listening deeply and bringing the energies through on to canvas for others to feel deep within their soul.
Question: What is it about landscapes that draws you to paint them?
Artist: I don’t paint landscapes! I paint ‘Abstract Expressionism’, although the viewer may feel like a piece looks like a landscape!
Question: Throughout your time painting what has been the most important thing you have learnt?
Artist: To use the highest quality paints and canvas I can.
Question: Do you have any art influencers? If so what are they?
Artist: Many modern artists for techniques ….. but the rest comes from within!
Question: What makes a good day for you?
Artist: Nothing matters more than helping people find their joy with Energy Art. To have people connecting through social media and asking about my work….To be able to close the studio excited for the next day when I open up and see how the work on canvas has dried!
Question: Do you showcase or exhibit any of your work? If so, where can we find your work?
Artist: I have work at The Scarlet Hotel and Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall, and have my own exhibition here in Somerset in July – see attached invite/flier.
I have a selection of pieces here in my own studio.
There are some pieces on my website – www.nickihughes.com
I also sell through instagram – www.instagram.com/nicki_hughes_art
Artist: I am moving much more into the field of commissions. Creating bespoke pieces of work for specific spaces in homes, spas, offices and yoga studios.
The process of commissioning work can be found in more detail on my website.
There’s also a video on the website explaining my process….
